At the National Hospital of Pediatrics (NHP) in Hanoi, Vietnam, over 400, 000 child patients seek treatments for various diseases and illnesses. For many, the hospital is their only hope of having access to proper medical intervention.
While the hospital does its best in trying to meet the overwhelming needs of a massive child population, it is plagued with problems such as an insufficient water supply, poor water quality and unhygienic toilet facilities that all led to an oversight in the provision of clean water.
Lien Aid’s timely intervention seeks to upkeep the health and wellness of child patients by providing a safe and reliable water supply through maintaining proper sanitation facilities.
At present, efforts are underway to upgrade the current water treatment plant, provide drinking water points at patient areas for free, install water purification systems and certain surgical and medical departments, as well as providing child friendly sanitation facilities.>> Read more

PROJECT: Roll out of hygienic latrine designs for flooded areas in Mekong Delta
LOCATION mekong delta (long an province, vietnam)
DURATION since 2009
BENEFICIARIES 1000 villagers from long an province, vietnam or about 60 households living in high-risk flood prone areas
PARTNERS lien aid, center for rural water supply and water sanitation (CERWASS)
It is reported that only 15 per cent of the households in Long An province have hygienic latrines that provides them with a proper form of sanitation. The rest of the population use fish-pond latrines or defecate directly into the river adding to the environmental pollution.
The crux of the issue happens when the banks of the rivers are flooded during the monsoon season, thereby allowing the water banks to come into contact with the ground. It is through this that contamination happens as the waste matter acts as an agent for the cultivation of disease causing bacteria.
Lien Aid’s coming in will see the provision of septic tanks and pour-flush latrine that will help to mitigate local resident’s mindsets towards the need for proper sanitation. >> Read more
